The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is conducting a regional technical assistance (TA) project to promote Evidence-Based Decision-making in support of Gender Equlaity. The Hon. Prime Minister Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva attended the ADB workshop at the Tanoa Dateline Hotel on the morning of the 11th of July, 2017. During the opening program, Asia Development Banks’ public health specialist, Ms. Inez Mikkelsen-Lopez welcomed the Hon. Prime Minister and explained the role of statistics, gender indicators and the achievements and challenges for gender mainstreaming in health.
The opening address was then made by the Hon. Minister for Internal Affairs the Prime Minister of Tonga. The Hon. Prime Minister’s address was followed by the vote of thanks delivered by the Acting CEO of Health and the closing prayer by Rev. Fili Lilo. Work on this initiative is being done in close consultation with the Tonga Department of Women’s Affairs and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC). Other countries involved in the initiative include Samoa, Kiribati and Republic of the Marshall Islands.
