A delegation from Dongguan City, Guangdong, People’s Republic of China (PRC) will depart Tonga this evening Tuesday 17 May 2016 after completing a three days visit to Tonga, led by the Deputy Mayor of Dongguan City, Mr Yang Xiaotang.
The purpose of the visit was to advance good cooperation between Dongguan City and Tonga.
The delegation signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) on Monday 16 May 2016. The first MOU was signed by the Acting Prime Minister, Hon. Siaosi Sovaleni and Mr Yang on Strengthening Exchange and Cooperation between the City of Dongguan, PRC and the Tonga Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; and the second MOU between Dongguan City and the Ha’apai Islands of the Kingdom of Tonga on the Establishment of Friendship Cities Relationship signed by the Governor of Ha’apai, Hon. Mo’ale Finau and Mr Yang.
Included in the official programs for the delegation, they visited and handed over educational materials to Tonga High School on Monday 16 May 2016 and donated gifts and goods to Ha’apai Groups at the Fa’onelua Convention Centre. This was followed by a promotional event of the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road Expo. The delegation will attend the commissioning ceremony of the road upgrade project at Tupou College this morning to be followed by a site visit to the Va’epopua Park project prior to their departure this evening.
