The Hon. Prime Minister, Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kala’au Community’s multi-purpose hall on Thursday 13 April, 2017. The construction of the hall is an initiative funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Government of Tonga and the Kala’au Community for the direct beneficiaries, the 122 people who reside in the village of Kala’au.
With a total project budget of TOP$197,566.85, the multipurpose hall will be under construction starting on this month of April and aims for completion in June, 2017. The three-month project is in partnership with its implementing partners; the Mainstreaming of Rural Development Innovation (MORDI) Tonga Trust, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Community of Kala’au.
The Hon. Prime Minister was later invited to inspect other community projects which include well-built fenced pigsties to keep the community clean and tidy. A nursery garden was also displayed as part of the programme. The village of Kala’au consists a population of 122 inhabitants and is situated at the western side, as part Tongatapu 5 electorate constituency.
