“Japan’s Grant Aid for Economic and Social Development Programme”

Monday the 28th of March, 2016 was marked with the Signing of the Exchange of Notes regarding Japan’s Grant Aid Economic and Social Development Programme between His Excellency Mr. Yukio Numata, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Kingdom of Tonga and Tonga’s Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade, Hon. Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva.

The grant aid is worth two hundred million yen (¥200,000,000) which is equivalent to approximately TOP$3.6 million pa’anga.

In his statement in the signing ceremony, the Hon Prime Minister said that Tonga welcomes the purpose of the grant and its contribution to the promotion of economic and social development efforts of Tonga in the form of product and services.

The Hon Prime Minister also conveyed the Government of Tonga’s utmost appreciation to the Government and People of Japan for the ongoing support and bilateral assistance to Tonga.
