The Prime Minister of Tonga, Hon. Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva, on behalf of the Government of Tonga has sent a message of condolence to Lady Adi Lusi Tuivanuavou Madraiwiwi, the widow of the late Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi, Lord Madraiwiwi Tangatatonga, on 6th October 2016.
The Hon Prime Minister in his letter said:
“Please accept my heartfelt condolences to you and your family on the passing of your husband, the late Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi (Lord Madraiwiwi).
In recognition of the dedication and service of the former Vice President of Fiji and distinguished member of the Judiciary, I wish to extend my most sincere gratitude to the late Lord Madraiwiwi on behalf of the Government of Tonga, for His late Lordship’s notable contributions to the Government, the Crown and the people of Tonga.
The loss of the late Lord Madraiwiwi, a Fijian aristocrat and true son of the island of Bau, as well as a Life Peer of Tonga’s nobility, will be felt in the longstanding relationship between our two nations.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family during this difficult time.”
Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi was granted the honour of Life Peerage by His Late Majesty King George Tupou V in 2010, and bestowed the title Lord Madraiwiwi Tangatatonga, in recognition of his dedicated service to the Crown and the Kingdom of Tonga. As a Life Peer, he was entitled to the privileges and benefits of a Noble of the Realm.
Lord Madraiwiwi Tangatatonga died in Suva, Fiji on 29 September 2016. His Lordship’s funeral will be held this Friday 7th October 2016 on Bau Island, Fiji.
