This media release is following on from the Government media release dated 21 January 2016 regarding the Tongan Delegation’s visit to Papua New Guinea led by the Hon. Prime Minister. This serves to confirm that no monetary commitments were made in the dialogue between the two countries.
While there are cost estimates and indicative amounts on how much the civil works and equipment for the upgrade of Teufaiva Stadium and the construction of the Sports High Performance Centre may cost, those amounts will not be confirmed until a technical assessment team from PNG will visit the sites in Tonga, led by the Honourable Minister for National Events, Sports and Tourism, Hon. Justin Tkatchenko MP.
Papua New Guinea’s extended experience of planning and preparing of a Pacific Games will provide a cost effective approach (both monetary and in-kind) for Tonga in preparing for 2019 and Tonga will also build on lessons learnt from PNG hosting the Pacific Games in 2015
