Prime Minister addresses the Chinese community

The Government of Prime Minister Hon Samiuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva wants closer interaction between the locals and the Chinese community here in Tonga.

Speaking at the launch of the China Tonga Friendship Association at the Kahana Lagoon in Halaleva here on Tongatapu on Wednesday night, Hon Pohiva said locals have a lot to learn from members of the Chinese community here.

And he wants both communities to inter-act more and work closer together in building a prosperous and peaceful Tonga.

Hon Pohiva and members of his Cabinet were guests at the event, which was organised by the Embassy of China in Tonga, the Tonga-China Friendship Association and the Tonga Chinese Federation.Pm_and_chinese_community2

He told those present at the event that his government wants a closer relationship between China and Tonga.

He thanked the Chinese government for all the assistance rendered to Tonga, in various sectors of the economy.

Hon Pohiva said China was an important development funder for Tonga and that his government will continue to recognize the One-China Policy.

Present at last night’s event were members of Cabinet, former Deputy Prime Minister Samiu Vaipulu, members of the  local business community, guests and members of the local Chinese community.

Entertainment for the night was provided by members of the Chinese community and the Oholei Resort Group.
