“Signing Ceremony of the agreement between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga on mutual visa exemption for the holders of ordinary passports”

The Prime Minister of Tonga and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Hon Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva and His Excellency Mr. Huang Huaguang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Tonga have signed an agreement between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga on mutual visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports.

The signing of the agreement took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on Thursday the 9th of June 2016. The agreement is furtherance to an earlier agreement between the Government of Tonga and the Government of the People’s Republic of China exempting Diplomatic, Official or Service Passports and Passports for Public Affairs from requiring visa.

The Hon. Prime Minister Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva stated that, “This is indeed a milestone in our Tonga-China relations as it further promotes our friendly association, boosts Tourism and other related sectors, contributes to the growth of the economy and facilitates our people-to-people exchange”.

The ceremony came to an end with mutual appreciation between the two Governments for the opportunity for the people of both countries to travel and build connections with one another.
