“Third Meeting of the Pacific Meteorological Council, 20 -24 July, Nuku’alofa.”

The Acting Prime Minister Hon Siaosi Sovaleni this morning opened the 3rd Meeting of the Pacific Meteorological Council at the Fa’onelua Convention Centre.

The theme for the meeting is “Sustainable Weather and Climate Services for a Resilient Pacific”. The meeting will focus on discussing issues on Pacific Islands Meteorological Services which includes Climate Services, Marine Weather Services and Ocean issues, Public weather Services, Communications, Education, Training and Research as well as Strengthening the Pacific Meteorological Council and the Pacific Meteorological Desk Partnership.

Participants of more than 70 from the Council of the Regional Organisation from the Pacific (CROP), Development Partners and Institutions are here in Nuku’alofa to attend the above meeting and it will be wrapped up by the Ministerial Meeting on Friday 24thJuly 2015.

The meeting is being hosted by the Government of Tonga through the Ministry of Energy, Information, Disaster Management, Environment, Climate Change and Communications and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environmental Programme (SPREP).
