Tonga to mark International Teacher’s Day

The 7th of October, 2016 will mark a day internationally observed as “Teacher’s Day”. Representatives from the Tongan Government, Tonga’s Ministry of Education and Training and Mission school systems in Tonga will come together at the ‘Atele Indoor Stadium to celebrate “Teacher’s Day” and focus on its theme, “Valuing Teachers, Improving their Status”.  The Ministry of Education and Training allocate funding every year to this occasion, in order to recognize the important role that teachers play and contribute to advancing education and creating a sustainable environment in Tonga.

All Government schools will be closed to allow teachers to join the event where the Hon. Prime Minister Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva has been invited to attend as the Guest of Honour.  In honour of the chief organizing school system for this event, Tailulu College, the teachers have been invited to wear orange on Teacher’s Day.
